I pondered for a long while with this purchase. It's a replacement for an ancient minidisk that was starting to play up. It is a really good piece of kit, especially at the price. I did a series of pieces for local BBC radio on it with a Shure SM58 attached and was very pleased with the results. The internal microphones are OK too, especially for atmos or music. Being able to put the SD card in the PC to edit is great. The SD card slot cover is a bit flimsy but with care should last OK. MIne has survived being trapsed around the middle east.
The floor noise with an external mic seems fine to me. The SM58 is not a loud mic but works well enough. If you try and use the unit hand held there will be handling noise - but what do you expect at this price point?
