Admittedly, I did buy this product on the strength of the more positive reviews, and like many, was very pleased with it. Some reviews commented on the poor sound quality in the higher registers - I'm not musically qualified to comment on that, but I personally found the general tonal range to be excellent, making it fantastic value for the price. As a beginner to this particular instrument, my one instructional book doesn't venture into the upper register anyway, and any shortcomings in sound quality will be soon forgotten as the learning process takes over. If you are an adult intent on learning this instrument, I can't think of a better place to start, though I do recommend buying proper wooden shafted mallets - the plastic ones supplied are much shorter.
